Actually, it really depends on the market and the product or even service that gets passed around. But you must admit that word of mouth advertising is one of the most effective form of advertising. It's what we now popularly known as viral marketing, esp. more popular nowadays due to the proliferation of social media networks. Selling services is one way to make money online. If you have skills in web design or graphic design, it can actually be a profitable online business. I've seen a few text ad exchange owners who have now ventured into designing and selling text ad/ surfing exchanges. Perhaps down the line, I may use such services.
